MIA...and Tasty Tuesday!

I know I have been MIA for awhile now...its because a lot has been happening to our family.

Right after I started this blog, my husband's uncle got really sick and we had to fly out to California to be with him.  He had cancer for a while and unfortunately he lost his fight.
RIP Donald Hembree.  You were an amazing man and will be missed.

Like his idol John Wayne once said, "courage is being scared and saddling up anyway."  He fought hard and strong for way to long.

On top of everything else, our family came down with strep throat last week..which was... fun.  So we are on the mend finally!

So now for today..

it is Tasty Tuesday!

And the star of the show....SMORES RICE CRISPY TREATS! Yummmmmm

Ingredients:
1 package large marshmallows
3 tablespoons butter
(can substitute large marshmallows and butter for marshmallow cream) and please do it is much easier
6 cups rice crispy
1 package of small marshmallows
1 package of milk chocolate chips
crushed graham cracker pieces

1. make rice crispy treats as usual according to box instruction.
2. set oven on high broil
3. cover rice crispy treats with layer of marshmallow cream to hold it together then a layer of crushed graham crackers
4. cover that layer with small marshmallows and chocolate chips (more the better!)
5. Put the pan in the oven on the middle shelf and turn light on and watch marshmallows turn brown....if you dont watch them they will burn!
and cut them when they are still warm and put on seperate plate or they will be next to impossible to get out of the pan.
Ta DA!! marshmallow goodness without the campfire! ...even though we have a perfectly good firepit in our back yard that needs to be used...oh well..
my excuse is that it rained today.
 haha! Enjoy!!

Tasty Tuesday!

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday!

I am happy to share the cupcakes I made from my two year old daughter's birthday party.

Her birthday is on halloween, so it is a good time to have a nice party for her with lots of candy and sweets!

I made strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing that were decorated like elmo!

My daughter is obsessed with elmo and freaked out when  she saw her party and her cupcakes were no exception.

I cheated....and everyone loved them and thought I made them from scratch!

What I used:
Boxed strawberry cake mix
cream cheese icing with red food coloring
coconut (for the fur) with red food coloring
small marshmallows for the eyes
a butterscotch candy for the nose
and black gel icing for the mouth and eyes

These cupcakes were really good with the mix of strawberry and cream cheese and coconut....
not one left over. :(

Here are a couple of other pictures from the party as well.
All the decor was bought at the Dollar Tree in a red theme.
They even had some seasame street decor!

Layla loved the gurly elmo costume I got for her also.  The kids could not get enough of the elmo pinata that wouldn't die! finally gave the bat to my 10 year old cousin to show that elmo who's boss!

And mommy and daddy joined in the seasame fun! The Aviator was oscar the grouch...notice the angry uni-brow...

And mommy was cookie monster...which isn't surprising to those who know my love of anything sweet. Picked up an amazing blue wig to go with at Walmart..

I know everyone had a good time and Layla woke up to elmo balloons all over her room....and she wouldnt have it any other way.

What do you like to do for your children's birthday parties?

Introduction

Hey Ya’ll!

My name is Laura and I am the author of Country is Country Wide.

I first want to start my blog by telling alittle about myself.  Many times I believe these blogs do not give enough information about the author to better understand their purpose of their postings.

This blog is an outlet for me to share my country ways of homemade recipes and shortcuts, handmade crafting and decorating, as well as savvy ways to save money and also being fashionable on a budget.  Being a country woman is not just about where you come from, it is about a frame of mind.  Priorities of God first, Family second and everything else to follow are what I try to base each article and ideal.

I have a wonderful family that consists of my husband (which we will call “the aviator”) who is an aviator of the United States Coast Guard.

We also have a wonderful but sometimes rambunctious two year old named Layla.

We move around the country with my husband’s job, but I have miraculously been able to find a career field that allows me to have my own business as a professional hairstylist.  We are currently stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA.   No matter where we have traveled, we have been able to find country ways in every place we re-station and find ways to practice them.  Hence, the title of this blog Country is Country Wide which was inspired by one of our favorite Georgia country singers, Brantley Gilbert.
